CMCC Beats WOLBI for 11th Win in a Row

Auburn, ME – CMCC Men's Basketball increased its winning streak to 11 straight games after a 112-74 victory over Word of Life Bible Institute. The Mustangs used 14 different players, all playing at least ten minutes, to hit their biggest offensive scoreline of the season and their longest win streak since 2013-14.

"I'm pleased with the boys' effort today," said head coach Dave Gonyea. "It's always a good game when you're able to get a lot of guys some time on the court. What's becoming clear is the strength of our second unit. They're not only able to maintain a lead when they come in, but often extend it."

Khaden Moore led all scorers with 16 points off the bench in just ten minutes. Sascha Alexeeff (13), Javion Jacobs (12), and Creighty Dickson (10) also scored in double figures. Alexeeff made his first career start along with Tim Herbert and Luke Jamieson. All 14 players who featured in the game scored at least one field goal. Will Duke had an impressive nine points and nine assists in just 11 minutes of game time.

The Huskies made the stronger start, opening a 5-0 lead and going up by as many as seven points through the first five minutes. Central Maine's usual starting lineup entered the game with 13:41 remaining in the first half, with the score tied 11-11. They immediately scored nine straight points to take the lead for good.

A 15-4 run extended the lead to 40-21 with 5:48 left before halftime. The hosts got an all-around effort in the opening 20 minutes, with 12 different players scoring. Alexeeff had ten points and Herbert and Dickson each had seven on 3-for-3 shooting performances from the field. The Mustangs also had an impressive 21 rebounds and 21 assists in the first half, heading to the locker room up 54-36.

Jacobs started off the second half with a dunk and a layup. J.T. Pound hit a three-pointer, and CMCC never led by less than 20 points for the rest of the game. Moore had ten of his game-high 16 in the second half. Ryan White got the squad to the century mark with 4:42 left to play, part of three straight baskets. Keiontay Marsh had the team's final bucket to increase the lead to 42 before a couple of WOLBI buckets in the final minute.

Central Maine was excellent from the field, shooting 48-for-85 (56.5%) and made ten three-pointers, its second-best performance from beyond the arc this season. Rebounds were again a factor. The Mustangs had a 45-32 advantage on the glass and scored 56 points in the paint. An impressive 78 of the team's 112 points came from off the bench. The defense also forced 19 turnovers. Dan Morales led Word of Life with 12 points, while Ross Wilkins, Miles Shine, and Trey Robinson all finished with nine.

CMCC next heads on the road, facing Kennebec Valley CC on Thursday. After an exhibition game against Bridgton Academy, the Mustangs will wrap up the first semester at home on Saturday, December 20th against Vermont State University-Randolph.
