Volleyball Championships set for Saturday at NHTI
CONCORD, N.H. - The Yankee Small College Conference volleyball teams wrapped up the regular season last weekend and the seeds are set for the conference championships Saturday at NHTI.
The NHTI Lynx will enjoy the home court advantage from the top seed after posting a 10-0 conference record. Carissa Archibald and Katie Steeves have led the charge for NHTI all season. Archibald leads the conference in aces per set (1.00) and is second in hitting percentage (1.93). Steeves is a close third in hitting percentage with 1.90 and is second in kills per set (2.44) and kills (122). As the top seed the Lynx have a bye in the first round and will face the winner of UMM and Great Bay CC at 10:30 a.m.
Unity College earned the second seed with a 7-3 mark in the YSCC this season. The Rams are led by Jacklyn Collins and Lyndsey Morris. Collins kills per set (2.93) and hitting percentage (.377). Morris leads the Rams with 148 digs and .91 aces per set. Unity has a first round bye and will take on the winner of the PSC vs. CSJ match at 10:30 a.m. The Rams edged out Paul Smith's College for the second seed by winning more conference matches on the season than the Bobcats.
Paul Smith's College is last season's defending champions. The Bobcats earned the third seed with a 7-3 record. Outside hitter, Mary Calabrese leads all YSCC players with 161 kills and has a hitting percentage of o.183 to lead the Bobcats. PSC will take on the sixth seed College of Saint Joseph's at 9:00 a.m. The Bobcats took all three matchups this season, 3-0.
The University of Maine Machias picked up the fourth seed in the tournament going 4-6 in YSCC play. The Clippers are led by Savannah Hayden. The junior setter leads the conference in digs (265) and digs per set (4.27). UMaine Machias will match up with the fifth seed GBCC. The Seawolves knocked off the Herons in both meeting this season.
Great Bay Community College finished the season 1-9 in their first year of YSCC play. The Herons Rylee Bernier averages over four assists per set and has 130 on the season. GBCC will take on UMM at 9:30 a.m.
The College of Saint Joseph's finished their first YSCC conference regular season 1-9 and the sixth seed in the tournament. The Fighting Saints will take on PSC in the first round at 9:30 a.m.
The Championship round will take place at center court at 12:30.
