One and Done: Seawolves Take Home Opener Win Over CCRI
SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine – Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) opened its 2025 women's soccer campaign with a 1-0 victory over the Community College of Rhode Island (CCRI) on Sunday afternoon at the Wainwright Sports Complex.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
After a tightly contested first half filled with promising chances, the Seawolves looked poised to break through early. In the 21st minute, Jocelyn Civiello (Sanford, Maine) got on the end of a dangerous through ball but couldn't convert the opportunity. SMCC continued to press and nearly found the net at the 58th minute mark when Ellie Schlichting (New Gloucester, Maine) fired a powerful shot just wide left — the best chance of the game to that point.
Moments later, Isabella Tanis (Bangor, Maine) came inches away from giving SMCC the lead, sending a clipped shot just over the bar near the 64th minute.
The breakthrough finally came in the 76th minute, when Schlichting made good on her earlier chance, slotting home the match-winner to put the Seawolves ahead for good.

Sophomore goalkeeper Aubrey Gilbert (Farmingdale, Maine) clocked all 90 minutes in goal, registering four saves en route to the first shutout of the season.
