Seawolves Drop Conference Game to Mustangs

SOUTH PORTLAND, Maine — The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team hosted rival Central Maine Community College (CMCC) on Senior Night Wednesday, falling 87-68 to the Mustangs.

HOW IT HAPPENED

SMCC faced an early 6-0 deficit before Julia Reed (Gorham, Maine) got the Seawolves on the board with a layup. Shortly after, Julissa McBarron (Springvale, Maine) sparked a run with a steal and pull-up jumper, then buried a three-pointer to keep the game tight. SMCC trailed 19-15 at the end of the first quarter.

The second quarter remained a back-and-forth battle. Kylie Young (Westbrook, Maine) connected from beyond the arc, and Skyler Tinker (Trescott Twp., Maine) gave SMCC its first lead with a basket off a Reed assist. McBarron added a late field goal and another three, helping SMCC head into halftime trailing just 32-31.

Reed opened the third quarter with a three-pointer, and Ashley Mullen (Oakland, Maine) followed with a triple of her own as both teams traded baskets. Tinker converted a layup and added a free throw during a CMCC push, but the Mustangs carried a 65-57 advantage into the fourth.

CMCC opened the final frame with a quick nine-point burst to extend the margin. Tinker knocked down a jumper and McBarron continued to attack offensively late, but the Mustangs maintained control down the stretch to secure the 87-68 win.
