SMCC captures the 2025 YSCC Softball Championship

AUBURN, Maine (YSCC)—The Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) held the 2025 Championships on Sunday, May 4, hosted by the Central Maine Community College Mustangs.

Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) claimed the 2025 YSCC softball championship on Sunday with a commanding 10-0 victory over the University of Maine-Augusta, powered by a no-hit, 10-strikeout performance from Sarah Wilkins.

Wilkins was flawless in the circle, going five innings without allowing a hit, run, or walk to help secure the Seawolves' championship win. The game was called after five innings due to the run rule.

SMCC jumped ahead early, scoring two runs in the first inning on a DeLanie Perry RBI single and a UMA error. The Seawolves continued to build their lead in the second behind a passed ball and another RBI from Perry.

In the third, Sloan Scotvold tripled to center and later scored on an error, pushing the lead to 5-0. SMCC added five more runs before the end of the game, sealing the shutout win.

Perry, Scotvold, Cameron Crerar, and Ariana Cross each had two hits for the Seawolves. Perry and Scotvold both drove in three runs, while Cross stole two of the team's five bases. The Seawolves were disciplined at the plate, drawing four walks and showing sharp defense with zero errors in the field.

Addison McCormick took the loss for UMA, allowing 10 runs (five earned) on nine hits through four innings.

With the win, SMCC secured the YSCC championship in dominant fashion, capping off a strong season with a complete team performance. The Seawolves now await a possible at-large bid to the USCAA Small College World Series, with selections set to be announced Monday during the USCAA Softball Tournament Selection Show.

SEMIFINAL 1

Wilkins powers Southern Maine to 29-2 win over NHTI in YSCC softball play

SMCC  rolled to a 29-2 victory over NHTI on Sunday, highlighted by a dominant offensive performance and three home runs from Sarah Wilkins, who drove in six runs and scored four times.

After NHTI plated a run in the top of the first, SMCC responded with 12 runs on 11 hits in the bottom half of the inning. Emily Hutchins delivered the biggest blow with a two-run triple, setting the tone early for the Seawolves.

The offense continued in the second, as SMCC tacked on six more runs. Olivia Hill and Courtney Frohaug each had run-scoring doubles, while Wilkins added an inside-the-park home run.

Wilkins struck again in the third with a two-run shot to center, and the Seawolves added four more in the frame. The fourth inning saw seven more runs cross the plate, capped by Hill's three-run inside-the-park homer and a bases-clearing triple from Ariana Cross.

Cassie Dunham picked up the win in the circle, allowing three hits and two runs over five innings with five strikeouts. NHTI's Summer LaFlamme took the loss, giving up 18 runs (13 earned) over three innings.

SMCC tallied 27 hits on the day, led by Cross who went 5-for-5. Hill, Frohaug, Hutchins, Perry, and Sloan Scotvold all posted multi-hit games. The Seawolves were active on the basepaths with five stolen bases and showed discipline at the plate, drawing five walks.

Madison Darling led NHTI with two hits and an RBI.

SEMIFINAL 2

UMA tops CMCC 7-2 in YSCC softball showdown

UMaine-Augusta earned a 7-2 victory over Central Maine Community College on Sunday in YSCC softball action, using a big fifth inning to break open a tied game.

CMCC took an early 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third, with Autumn Peterson doubling in a run and McKenna Ridlon adding an RBI groundout. UMA responded in the top of the fourth, tying the game 2-2 on an RBI single by Kenzie Kutniewski and a sacrifice line out from Arabel Linkletter.

The Moose pulled away in the fifth when an error allowed two runs to score, followed by an RBI single from Audrey Nile. UMA added insurance runs in the late innings to seal the win.

Addison McCormick picked up the win for UMA, allowing six hits and two unearned runs over seven innings, while striking out three. Peterson took the loss for CMCC, giving up six runs (five earned) over four innings.

UMA finished with 12 hits, led by Aubrey Peer's 4-for-5 performance from the leadoff spot. Linkletter drove in three runs, and McCormick, Nile, and Kutniewski each had multiple hits. The Moose also drew four walks and showed patience at the plate throughout the game.

Peterson and Ridlon each drove in a run for CMCC. Miah Gallan led the Mustangs at the plate, going 2-for-3.
