The 2025 Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) Men's Soccer Championship weekend delivered drama, defensive grit, and standout offensive displays at Word of Life Bible Institute.
Semifinal 1 – Central Maine CC 2, Word of Life 0
November 1
Central Maine Community College earned the first spot in the YSCC Championship Match with a commanding 2–0 victory over host Word of Life Bible Institute.
Daniel Semple put CMCC ahead in the 21st minute, finishing a setup from Mitch Cameron. The Mustangs sustained relentless offensive pressure throughout, outshooting Word of Life by a wide margin and testing keeper Raphael Cournoyer on multiple occasions.
In the 84th minute, Stephan Samba sealed the result by finishing another Cameron assist, capping a disciplined defensive showing led by Matty Waters and Cody Cleaveland's clean sheet in goal.
Semifinal 2 – Paul Smith's College 1, Southern Maine CC 1 (2OT)
Southern Maine CC wins 9–8 in penalty shootout
The second semifinal was a marathon. Paul Smith's and Southern Maine battled to a 1–1 draw across 110 minutes before a thrilling penalty shootout decided it.
Bryce Calderwood struck first for Paul Smith's in the 21st minute, assisted by Riley King, but Southern Maine's Jaxon Olsen equalized just five minutes later to level the match before halftime.
Goalkeepers Cazimir Couble and Adao Lufumbu were sensational—Couble racking up double-digit saves, and Lufumbu matching him in the shootout. The teams traded successful penalty kicks deep into extra rounds before Southern Maine advanced 9–8 after 10 rounds, edging the Bobcats in one of the longest YSCC semifinals in recent memory.
Championship – Central Maine CC 4, Southern Maine CC 0
November 2
Central Maine capped its postseason surge with a dominant 4–0 win over Southern Maine CC to claim the 2025 YSCC Men's Soccer Championship.
Daniel Semple opened the scoring early in the second half, again assisted by Albie Fozard-Oakes. Minutes later, Fozard-Oakes doubled the lead from a Yoan Thériault feed. After a red card left Southern Maine shorthanded, Mikel Soto buried a penalty in the 73rd. Substitute forward Drew Hatala closed the scoring in the 82nd minute, putting the result beyond doubt.
Cody Cleaveland posted his fourth straight clean sheet for the Mustangs, and ninth of the season, steering them to their fifth straight YSCC Tournament title.
