Word of Life and York County Battle to Scoreless Draw

POTTERSVILLE, N.Y. – In a defensive showdown at the Huskies Soccer Complex, Word of Life and York County Community College played to a 0–0 draw on Friday afternoon. The result keeps Word of Life unbeaten on the season at 0-0-2, while York County moves to 1-2-1 overall and 1-0-1 in YSCC play.

Both teams had stretches of pressure, but neither side could find the finishing touch. Word of Life created 14 shots, including 10 in the second half, but York County goalkeeper Ryen Royce stood tall, making five saves to secure the clean sheet. On the other end, Huskies' goalkeeper Raphael Cournoyer was just as sharp, collecting six saves to preserve his first shutout of the season.

For the Huskies, Austin Hartwell provided a spark off the bench, firing a team-high four shots, while Matheus Borges and George Rohrbaugh also forced saves. Tiago Cardin and Henrique Borges added additional attempts on target, but the York defense held firm.

York County leaned on a balanced attack, with Kevine Paulino, Consolation, and Jesse Hyzer each registering shots on goal. Cournoyer's steady play between the posts, including a key pair of second-half stops, kept the Huskies level.

Fouls and physical play slowed down both sides at times, as Word of Life was whistled seven times and York nine. Despite that, both defenses organized well, particularly in defending set pieces, with the Huskies shutting down three second-half corner kicks from York.

Word of Life returns to action next week as they look for their first win of 2025, as they play in YSCC action against Albany College of Pharmacy on Tuesday, September 16, at 5:00 pm.
