USCAA Track and Field Nationals: Hosted by Hampshire and the YSCC

(YSCC) – This Saturday, April 29th United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Track and Field Nationals will be hosted by Hampshire College at American International College in Springfield, Massachusetts. Head Hampshire College Track and Field Coach and the Assistant Athletic Director Eric Nazar serves as meet director. The Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) looks forward to a competitive meet!

The following teams are participating, and here are some things to be on the lookout for:

NHTI Lynx

Coach Graham Hayslip commented on the meet, saying, "This invitational will be the first championship level meet for most of our athletes and represents a great achievement for them, as this season is the first full track season that some of them have experienced. The team is looking forward to a fun day of great performances."

According to Coach Hayslip, the following athletes should be watched closely before the meet.

  • Natalie Riley - Women's Shot Put and Discus
  • Jahlen Buckmire - Men's Long Jump and Triple Jump
  • Nick Arenstam - Men's Javelin and Discus

York County CC Hawks

YCCC has become an incredible threat in the Yankee Small College Conference Track and Field world. When I asked Head Coach Andy Clement about the meet, he commented, "This is the only meet we go to where you have to earn your spot to compete, and that fact is not lost on our team. The opportunity to compete in this meet is the reason why we were outside in sub-freezing weather at 8 AM in December and running in the snow and rain in March, working to get better. For a lot of our athletes this will be their last chance to be part of a team competing in a track and field meet, and I know that they want to go out giving it everything they have got. I've been looking forward to this all year and I can't wait to get it on!"

Be on the lookout for top performances from the following athletes:

  • Tre Brown in the Long Jump, Triple Jump, and High Jump
  • Brendan Mather in the 1500m
  • Amy Stanek in the 1500m and 5000m
  • Izze Gray in the Hammer Throw

Hampshire College

Our gracious host of the meet is Hampshire College. Coach Eric Nazar said, "We're hosting, so I'm just hoping for good weather."

Be on the lookout for:

  • Alena Maes-Polan in PV and 400H
  • Wolfie Krebs in 400H
  • Men's 4x1 team

University of Maine Augusta Moose

I was able to speak with Coach TJ Niles, who was enthusiastic about his team heading into this weekend. He stated," Our team is excited to compete at the USCAA Championships. For me as a coach and my athletes I hope to see the Championship continue to grow in both numbers and depth from last year. We look forward to personal bests, and warmer weather!"

For UMA, be on the lookout for:

  • Gabe Roig Senior Javelin
  • Cole Martin Sophomore Pole Vault
  • Loran McAlpine Freshman Discus & Shot

Central Maine CC Mustangs

Central Maine Head Coach, Brian McDonald is excited for USCAA's. He said, "Our athletes are excited for the opportunity to compete at the USCAA National Invitational and cannot wait to see the friends they have made around the conference."
