CONCORD, N.H.  — NHTI, Concord’s Community College was the host site for the YSCC Elite Eight Women’s Basketball Tournament. In the first game of the day the number one seeded U-Maine Augusta women topped the eighth seeded Vermont Tech women 66-39. In game two the number four seeded Central Maine Community College women defeated the number five seeded Southern Maine Community College 80-64. In game three the number three seeded NHTI women held on to defeat the number six seeded College of St. Joe’s (VT) 62-54. Finally, in the nightcap the number two ranked U-Maine Machias women scooted by the number seven ranked Eastern Maine Community College women 77-52.

 

Leading UMA in the win were Katie Porier (23 points with 19 rebounds and four blocks), Jenn Lola (18 points with seven rebounds) and Kerry Fredette (10 points with six boards). VTC was led by Kelly Vellek (19 points with five rebounds), and Amanda Baker (eight points with six steals).

 

CMCC was paced by Danielle McCusker (13 points), Maggie Sabine (24 points with 15 boards and five steals), and Karlee Biskup (10 points with eight rebounds). The top performers for SMCC were Katelyn Benson (13 points with 11 boards) and Emily Bard (20 points).

 

#1 U-Maine Augusta will battle #4 Central Maine Community College on Saturday at 12 noon at NHTI.

 

The NHTI women were paced by Sara Romano (Lebanon) 31 points with eight rebounds, Kelley Collins (Groveton) 14 rebounds and five steals, and Caroline Head (Manchester) eight points with nine rebounds. CSJ were led by Tynniqua Cross (18 points), Kelly Festa (10 points with nine rebounds), Brooke Griswold (10 points with seven rebounds and four steals), and Anionette Lopez (12 points with six rebounds).

 

The top performers for UMM were Dana Houghton (24 points with 12 rebounds), and Becca Young (17 points with four steals). The Golden Eagles of EMCC were led by Emma Johnson (12 points with seven rebounds) and Ashley Thayer (10 points).

 

#2 U-Maine Machias will play #3 NHTI on Saturday at 2 PM at NHTI.

 

The YSCC Elite Eight Men’s Basketball Tournament will tip-off on Friday with the first game at 3 PM and final game at 9 PM all hosted at NHTI. Saturday will feature both the YSCC Men’s and Women’s Final Four before both championship games on Sunday. All action will be hosted at NHTI in Concord, NH.
