The Brett-Ramirez Combo On Display At Machias

MACHIAS, Maine—The Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) women's basketball team took down the #10-ranked United States Collegiate Athletic Association (USCAA) Clippers of the University of Maine at Machias (UMM) 78-51 on Tuesday, Jan. 29.

It was a dominating performance offensively for the SeaWolves scoring 20 or more in each of the final three quarters. SMCC made eight of 18 from beyond the arc (44.4 percent) and out-rebounded Machias by 15 to help secure the team's seventh road victory of the season.

Sophomore captain Amanda Brett (Portland, Maine) scored a season-best 34 points converting 50 percent from the floor. The power forward dominated the paint on both ends of the floor pulling down 13 boards and adding a block. Her trusty counterpart and sophomore captain Abigail Ramirez (Portland, Maine) recorded a double-double the unconventional way—11 points and a season-high 13 assists.

Sophomore Priscila Berdeja (Acapulco, Mexico) went for a season-high 12 points on four three-pointers made.

UMM's Tate Dolley led her team with 25 points, 13-16 from the free-throw line, and 10 rebounds in 38 minutes of action.

SMCC makes it seven in-a-row and improves to 17-2 overall, 12-1 in Yankee Small College Conference (YSCC) play. Machias slips to 13-7 overall, but remains third in the league standings at 9-3.

Next up for the SeaWolves is a YSCC meeting with the Lynx from NHTI at The HUB on Thursday, Jan. 31. The women get the later tip-time at 8 p.m. WATCH.
