CONCORD, New Hampshire (YSCC) -- The Univeristy of Maine Machias Clippers finished off their undefeated YSCC season, beating the Southern Maine Community College Seawolves to take home the 2016 YSCC Men's Soccer Championship
The game was emotional from the start, as both teams played with a very physical gameplan.
The Seawolves looked like they had upset on their mind just 12 minutes in. Crisp passing got the Seawolves in position behind Clipper goalie Tristan Huot, but the shot trickled wide right to keep the game scoreless.
The Clippers made them pay 7 minutes later when Connor Martin got behind the defense and scored unassisted to make it a 1 - 0 score.
Things stayed that way until the 28th minute of the half when Jairo Ulises-Castillo scored off a free kick to give the Clippers a 2 - 0 lead over the Seawolves.
The second half turned into a defensive slugfest as both teams missed on great scoring chances.
The Clippers sealed the game and the championship in the 86th minute, as Haidar Al-Freihy scored on a penalty kick.
The shutout win sends the UMaine-Machias Clippers to the United States Collegiate Athletic Association's national tournament November 10 through the 14th in Virginia Beach, VA
