VASSELBORO, Maine – The New Hampshire Technical Institute golf team shot a 336 on a wet Natanis Golf Course Saturday afternoon to win the Yankee College Small Conference team title. The Lynx were led by Austin Fox, who shot a 79 on the par 72 course to finish fourth overall.
In individual play, Tommy Sterling of Southern Maine Community College (SMCC) and Ben Ellis of the University of Maine at Machias both finished regulation tied for first place at 76, before Sterling secured the YSCC title by shooting a par on a playoff hole. Alex McFarland, also of SMCC, finished one stroke off the lead, finishing with a 77 on the day.
Only four players finished in the seventies, as the seven competing teams played most of the 18 holes in the rain. Southern Maine Community College finished second overall with a team score of 341, while Vermont Technical College took third with a 361. The University of Maine at Augusta, who hosted the tournament for the second year in a row, won the YSCC Sportsmanship Award.
New Hampshire Technical Institute also won the NECA Championship, which is for players who are not enrolled in a full time academic course schedule. The four players competing for NHTI were led by Brandon Flynn and Mike Varney, who tied with a 78. Their Lynx teammate Will Lucas took third in the NECA individual standings with an 80.
