LEWISTON, Maine – Five teams participated in this weekend’s Yankee Small College Conference bowling championships at Sparetimes Bowling. Saturday began with individual championships followed by Sunday’s team championships.
NHTI’s Meghan Masary took home the top prize for the women’s individual championship for the second year in a row, defeating Paul Smith’s Layne Darfler 196-142. Masary came out on fire and was perfect through five frames while Darfler ended her string with three straight strikes. Masury came into the tournament ranked first in the YSCC with an average of 224.20. Darfler came into the tournament ranked fourth overall, with an average of 171.20.
Masury defeated UMA’s Ashley Peaslee (134.20) and Darfler defeated teammate Deanna Pfau (192.60) to advance to the championship. Darfler and Peaslee ended the first round of play tied, and Darfler defeated Peaslee in a one frame bowl-off to claim the number three spot.
On the men’s side, it was Eastern Maine Community College’s Derrick Grailich defeating Paul Smith’s Dave Hejna 237-190 to take home the men’s individual title. Grailich and Hejna were ranked seventh and eighth, respectively, headed into the weekend’s championship. Also finishing in the top four were Paul Smith’s Ryan McGowan and Bruce Donohue.
